Memo 002: Break for lunch
A. Action at school (around 11.45am)
Miss Pauling's currently wondering around the back of the school with a lunchbox in hand. She'd made some simple fried rice for lunch and true to her word she's here to share some with the RED Sniper. Feel free to speak to her while she waits for him, or if you are the RED Sniper, come and pick her and your lunch up.
B. Action at town (after the school)
Now she's just heading around town and the residential areas, checking out the rest of Mayfield. She's got a book in one hand and a pencil in the other and every so often she'll stop to write something down. Approach her?

Are you lost?

(She slips her notebook back into her pocket.)
Are you a long-time resident of Mayfield?

It's nice to meet you Miss. Pauling.
no subject
...excuse me miss, but are you one of the countries?

I see. I had the chance to speak with Mr.Lithuania the other day, and he seems like quite a nice person.
no subject
There's actually a lot of us here right now.
no subject
no subject
W-well...I don't know him very well....and he doesn't really like my brother.
I-I know his brother Canada a lot better.
no subject
Maybe one day I'll meet him then. I'd like to get to know my own country better. (The last sentence is meant as a pun, but as it's Miss Pauling all her jokes and puns fall flat.)
So what do you do here in Mayfield, Miss Ukraine?
no subject
Ah here? I work in a flower shop mostly and try to look after the children in my house.
no subject
Children? Do you mean drone children, or real children, Miss Ukraine?
no subject
Oh real children. Well Pamela's a ghost and Koharu and Sora are teenagers...Sora doesn't really live at my house either, but she comes over almost every day so it's like she does.
Also Hajime, he's a little boy that comes over a lot. And there's Luke whose living with a friend of mine now, but I'm still keeping an eye on him.
[Ukraine is a professional mother.]
no subject
Wow, that's a lot of children to take care off, Miss Ukraine, especially given the circumstances that we're in. It's really nice of you to look out for them and care for their well-being.
(Eventhough one's a ghost; Miss Pauling's decided that if you can have walking countries in Mayfield, then you can have a transparent floating spirit as well. Miss Pauling's actually sounds a bit wistful about the whole mother thing; her own mother's died when she was still very young, so she never got the chance to grow up with one.)
no subject
Well I'm used to looking after people. Besides, it's hard for the children to be here.
[Small smile. She just ends up adopting most people she comes across, especially children.]
no subject
I can't believe that Mayfield brings even children here. I hope that none of the children are too badly affected by the events. Some things stay with you for life...
(Is that a flicker of emotion behind those spectacles? Or was it just the light playing on them?)
no subject
[She sighs and pushes some hair back.]
I know. It's terrible. Luckily there are more adults then children. And a lot of people who look like children here are a lot more powerful then they seem.
no subject
Do the others look out for the children as well?
I'm sorry Miss Ukraine, I don't really understand what you mean by your last sentence. (She IS from a relatively normal world, if you minus the weapons and the war between RED and BLU.)
no subject
Oh well there's a lot of...strange people here. Some children aren't really children. Or they have powers. The little boy Hajime I mentioned. He can control water.
no subject
Really? That's something I didn't know. I'll really have to be careful that I don't end up accidentally insulting a child who's actually an adult.
He can control water? Are there any other children with such powers like his?
no subject
We try...
That's always good to remember. I just try to be polite to everyone. Even some of the animals here can talk.
Yes, oh I'm sure there is.
no subject
Wow, the people in Mayfield are really diverse. A boy with water powers, an AI, a general on rollar skates...
Say Miss Ukraine, can I have the address to the flowershop? I'd like to come by later just to have a look.
no subject
Thanks, Miss Pauling.
Should've made a sandvich instead.
He'll eat pretty much anything
no subject
(Mentioning the RED Scout leaves a bad taste in her mouth, but she manages a relieved smile on her face.)
It's good that all of you are alright though. The more I learn about Mayfield, the less I like of it, and it seems more and more impossible that we can get out of here alive.
(The smile drops, and she's back to worry mode again.)
no subject
(He leads them into his "office", pretty much the dinkiest room in the whole building, and indicates that she should sit down.)
If we could get th' Spois t' work t'gether and gather some real Intelligence on this place, we could at least get a better idea 'f wot we're up against.
no subject
(Or rather, how are his victims faring. Miss Pauling's seen his file, and it's not pretty.)
That's not a bad idea at all Mr Mundy. Except that from what I've heard, the BLU and the RED Spy seem to be...at odds with each other. It would be quite difficult to get them to even be cordial to each other for ten minutes.
(She takes a seat on one of the chairs in the room.)
no subject
(He sits on the other "chair", an old wooden crate.)
Don't think anyone's on good terms with th' BLU Spoi. 'e 'as a knack for making enemies.
no subject
no subject
'e shouldn't give you too much trouble. You're th' Boss' second in command, after all.
no subject
(For a while, she falls silent. The Sniper's reminded her of the Administrator's current state; she wonders whether, in some sort of twisted way, the older woman's actually found happiness here in Mayfield, living the happy life of a drone. She definitely wasn't happy at home at all...not even when she was crushing the very hope and dreams of her enemies.)
The Administrator...she got droned, right? Have...have you seen her here?
no subject
I don't talk t' th' drones if I can 'elp it. She's around, I guess, but I wouldn't be able t' tell you 'ow much 'f 'er is left in there, if any.
no subject
I guess...she really wouldn't be the Administrator though, if she's left like in this state. She's not...really going to be happy, right?
no subject
If she comes back you could troi asking 'er about it.
no subject
I don't think she'd want to be reminded of a time when she wasn't someone with power, but just a simple housewife baking cookies and pies. She might just bite my head off.
(She falls silent for a bit, before she changes the subject.)
Mr Mundy, would you happen to know if there's anyone in town that I should be careful about?
(The Major still weighs heavily on her mind, but she has to wonder whether there's anyone else.)
no subject
Most 'f th' Civilians around 'ere keep t' themselves. Th' ones that are dangerous 'ave powers that make them bloody annoying.
no subject
I know, but I really hope that it doesn't come to that.
Powers? You mean...like the ability to be very strong?
(She's thinking about The Captain and the fact that he had been ripping metal into tiny pieces like they were pieces of paper.)
no subject
Pretty much anything you can imagine.
no subject
How do you deal with them then, if they come after you?
no subject
no subject
I'll try to get the BLU Spy to work with us. I can't make any promises that he won't stop bothering everyone else, but it would help us to know what to look out for if he could share what he knew.
