Memo 002: Break for lunch

A. Action at school (around 11.45am)

Miss Pauling's currently wondering around the back of the school with a lunchbox in hand. She'd made some simple fried rice for lunch and true to her word she's here to share some with the RED Sniper. Feel free to speak to her while she waits for him, or if you are the RED Sniper, come and pick her and your lunch up.

B. Action at town (after the school)

Now she's just heading around town and the residential areas, checking out the rest of Mayfield. She's got a book in one hand and a pencil in the other and every so often she'll stop to write something down. Approach her?

(She blinks with surprise. These countries were related? But that would make sense in a way...Russia and Ukraine ARE pretty similar in terms of culture and people.)

I see. I had the chance to speak with Mr.Lithuania the other day, and he seems like quite a nice person.

W-well...I don't know him very well....and he doesn't really like my brother.

I-I know his brother Canada a lot better.

(American and Russia NOT liking each other? Canada and America are brothers too? She has to wonder whether these personifications imitate the relationships between the countries themselves.)

Maybe one day I'll meet him then. I'd like to get to know my own country better. (The last sentence is meant as a pun, but as it's Miss Pauling all her jokes and puns fall flat.)

So what do you do here in Mayfield, Miss Ukraine?

W-well...he's here. So you could probably do that.

Ah here? I work in a flower shop mostly and try to look after the children in my house.

Oh, the flower shop. I haven't been there yet myself actually. Do you have a particular favorite flower that you like? (She's betting that it'll be Ukraine's national flower, not like she'd know what it is, but still.)

Children? Do you mean drone children, or real children, Miss Ukraine?

Yes! The sunflower. It's my national flower. Though I also like Guelder Roses, they're my national emblem.

Oh real children. Well Pamela's a ghost and Koharu and Sora are teenagers...Sora doesn't really live at my house either, but she comes over almost every day so it's like she does.

Also Hajime, he's a little boy that comes over a lot. And there's Luke whose living with a friend of mine now, but I'm still keeping an eye on him.

Personally for me, I like lavenders. They have such a nice scent and they're purple too. I don't suppose you sell them at the flowershop?

Wow, that's a lot of children to take care off, Miss Ukraine, especially given the circumstances that we're in. It's really nice of you to look out for them and care for their well-being.

(Eventhough one's a ghost; Miss Pauling's decided that if you can have walking countries in Mayfield, then you can have a transparent floating spirit as well. Miss Pauling's actually sounds a bit wistful about the whole mother thing; her own mother's died when she was still very young, so she never got the chance to grow up with one.)

Actually we have most flowers in the shop. I'm sure we'd be able to find you some. You should come in someday.

Well I'm used to looking after people. Besides, it's hard for the children to be here.

[Small smile. She just ends up adopting most people she comes across, especially children.]

Thanks, I'd appreciate that Miss Ukraine. I don't have a job yet, but once I do and I get my first salary, I'll definitely come over.

I can't believe that Mayfield brings even children here. I hope that none of the children are too badly affected by the events. Some things stay with you for life...

I know. It's terrible. Luckily there are more adults then children. And a lot of people who look like children here are a lot more powerful then they seem.

I'm sorry Miss Ukraine, I don't really understand what you mean by your last sentence. (She IS from a relatively normal world, if you minus the weapons and the war between RED and BLU.)

Oh well there's a lot of...strange people here. Some children aren't really children. Or they have powers. The little boy Hajime I mentioned. He can control water.

That's a relief to know. It'd be terrible if children were forced to join some of the events that take place here. I heard that there was one about poisoned milk recently, with razor blades inside. To have a child go through that...that's just cruel.

Really? That's something I didn't know. I'll really have to be careful that I don't end up accidentally insulting a child who's actually an adult.

He can control water? Are there any other children with such powers like his?

Yes. I met a talking, flying unicorn just earlier today, and that was quite a shock already.

Wow, the people in Mayfield are really diverse. A boy with water powers, an AI, a general on rollar skates...
